Georgia studied music at Ithaca College, the University of Connecticut and the Royal College of Music. After four decades of teaching music, it is a joy to have the time to play in a variety of organizations. I am particularly enjoying busting out my “swing chops” as that genre was not as available to me as a female in my “early years” as it now has become. The trombone is a welcomed “ax” in ensembles from jazz, pop, brass quintet, orchestras, CONCERT BANDS and as a soloist. One of my most memorable opportunities was playing with Commonwealth Brass Quintet when we played for the wedding of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver. There were multiple chamber groups in the prelude that combined into an orchestra for the ceremony. Music has opened so many doors and made my life experience colorful and joyful.
Georgia’s favorite song is “Whatever I am playing at the moment! I absolutely ADORE standing up in the Robert Hayes Band Shell at Salem Willows to play the final chorus of Sousa’s Stars and Stripes“.
Georgia started playing with the NSCB as a substitute for 4 or 5 years and then joined the band as a regular member about a dozen years ago. She also serves on the band’s Board of Directors. Georgia plays Bass Trombone with the band, and she also plays piano.
